Prince, Rukesh in semis

Prince Dahal, Praful Maharjan, Pabin Linthep and Rukesh Maharjan advanced to the U-19 singles semi-finals of the President Cup Junior International Badminton Championship in Biratnagar on Wednesday.

Prince beat Thu Rin of Myanmar 21-11, 21-15 to set the last-four clash with Rukesh, who saw off his Nepali compatriot Saroj Ansari 21-14, 15-21, 21-17. Praful defeated beat Satyam Subba 21-4, 21-10 to set up the semi-final clash with Pabin, who dispatched Pranish Singh Thakuri 21-12, 16-21, 21-16.

Prince also made it to the semi-finals of the U-15 category with a 21-6, 21-11 win over Rohit Baral. Joining him the last four of the U-15 category were Himal Chand, Roshan Saud and J Lin Thu of Myanmar. Himal beat Bibek Chaudhary 21-16, 21-19, Roshan saw off Ujjwal Shrestha 13-21, 21-12, 21-13 and Thu overcame Nepali shuttler Anish Khatiwada 21-16, 21-11.

Jessica Gurung, Sima Rajbanshi, Ranjana Bhatta and Rashila Maharjan entered the U-19 girls’ singles semi-finals. Jessica beat Nita Lamshal 21-10, 21-6, Sima won her match after Bisna Bista retired hurt due to knee injury, Ranjana defeated dispatched Rose Pandey 21-12, 21-12 and Rashila overcame Anjana Rai 21-2, 21-6.

Praful and Rukesh teamed up to beat Safal Thapa and Saroj Gupta 21-10, 21-10 and play Pemba Sherpa and Priyanshu Chhetri in the U-19 boys’ semi-finals. Pemba and Priyanshu got the better of Devraj Rana and Roshan Saud 21-11, 21-12. Pabin and Diwas Biswakarma take on Lin Thu and Thu Rin of Myanmar in another semi-final match. Pabin-Diwas defeated Shiva Thapa and Saroj Ansari 21-12, 21-17 while the Myanmar pair eliminated Rohit Baral and Ujjwal Shrestha 21-5, 21-15.
