As fasting surgeon Dr Govinda KC’s heath condition worsens, BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS), Dharan has sent a team of specialists to facilitate the treatment at Ilam District Hospital.
An 11-member team including Cardiologist Dr Prashant Shah and Emergency Medicine Specialist Dr Ajay Kumar Yadav along with general physicians and anaesthetist among others have left for Ilam.
Doctors of Ilam District Hospital, who have been attending KC, have been suggesting his immediate transfer to a well-facilitated hospital to provide better treatment for his critical health condition.
Dr Bijendra Krishna Shah, acting-medical superintendent at the hospital, had said that KC should be kept at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the earliest, since he contracted pneumonia and is also suffering from low blood pressure along with low blood oxygen level and arrhythmia (problem with the rate of heartbeat).
“The team of specialists have been sent with all the required equipments to treat Dr KC. The equipments will help the doctors to provide treatment as in the ICU,” Vice-chancellor of BPKIHS Dr Raj Kumar Rauniyar told the Post. “We were asked by the Ministry of Health and Population to send a team to Ilam.”
BPKIHS has also kept a team standby in the hospital in case if Dr KC needs to be transferred.
“A team is on standby at the hospital because as per the information we have received (regarding Dr KC’s health) he might be transferred to BPKIHS anytime soon,” said Dr Rauniyar.
Dr KC was admitted to the hospital during his sixth day of the 16th hunger strike.
