Jhapa claim Falgunanda Gold Cup title

Jhapa XI clinched the Falgunanda Gold Cup football tournament with a 2-1 win over Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) in the final in Panchthar on Monday.Pujan Uparkoti struck both the goals for Jhapa while Rajiv Gurung replied for the Army team. Uparkoti gave Jhapa the lead in the 23rd minute only for Rajiv Gurung to equalise in the 71st minute. Uparkoti again struck for Jhapa seven minutes from time which ultimately turned out to be the winning goal. Jhapa were rewarded with Rs 400,000 which TAC earned Rs 200,000.
Jhapa player dominated the individual award with Devendra Tamang walking away with best player award and rode home with a motorbike. Jhapa’s Manoj Pradhan was named the best goalkeeper and his teammates Uparkoti the best midfielder and Dilen Loktan the best forward. Jhapa’s Prabesh Katuwal was adjudged the best coach and Army team’s Yuddha Shahi the best defender. Prabin Jabeju of hosts Phidim Sporting
Club was collected the emerging player award. In all 10 teams were in fray for the title in the knockout tournament.
