Shivaram, Bhuwan in quarter-finals

Nepal No 1 professional golfer Shiva Ram Shrestha, Bhuwan Nagarkoti, Jayaram Shrestha, Rame Magar, Deepak Thapa Magar, Bal Bhadra Rai, Bhuwan Kumar Rokka and Dinesh Prajapati completed the quarter-final lineup after winning their respective matches on the opening day of the Surya Nepal NPGA Match Play on Tuesday.

Playing in his home turf, top-ranked Shivaram beat Pashupati Sharma 7&6 at the Royal Nepal Golf Club. Bhuwan Nagarkoti battled to beat former Nepal No 1 Deepak Acharya on the second extra hole. Nagarkoti and Acharya were tied after regular 18 holes and went on to the playoff. Dinesh Prajapati pulled off the stunning victory as the 14th-ranked golfer eliminated third-ranked Dhana Thapa Magar 3&2.

Jayaram Shrestha saw off Pradeep Kumar Lama 7&6 and Rame Magar got the better of Bikash Adhikari 6&5. Bhuwan Kumar Rokka defeated Sanjay Lama on the first extra hole after the regular 18 holes play ended in a tie. 

Bal Bhadra Rai beat Surya Prasad Sharma 4&3 while veteran Deepak Thapa Magar ousted fellow RNGC pro Rabi Khadka 3&2.

Shivaram will take on Thapa Magar and Jayaram will be up against Rame Magar in the quarter-finals on Wednesday. Rokka will rub his shoulders against Prajapati while Nagarkoti will face Rai the other last-eight duels. 

The semi-finals are also scheduled for Wednesday, while the third-place and final matches will be played on Thursday. The final will be played over 36 holes, while other matches will be of 18 holes.

In all, top 16 pros under the Order of Merit are taking part in the event. The tournament offers Rs 250,000 in total prize money. Top four pro will earn Rs 70,000, Rs 40,000, Rs 28,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively. The losing quarter-finalists will receive Rs 11,000 each. The first-round losers are also assured of Rs 6,000 each.
