Protest to make Dhankuta permanent capital of State 1

Locals staged demonstration in Dhankuta on Thursday, demanding the government to make Dhankuta the permanent capital of Province 1.

Lawmakers of Province 1 were also involved in the rally that marched around the town and turned into an assembly at Madan Chok.

Lawmaker RC Tumba said, “Dhankuta should be declared the provincial capital because of its historical importance as well as its infrastructural development.”

The demonstration was orgnaised by “Dhankuta Rajdhani Banau Abhiyan Samiti”. Last year, residents of Dhankuta had protested for two months after the government had declared Biratnagar as the temporary provincial capital.

Rally in Butwal

BUTWAL: Nepali Congress organised a rally in Butwal demanding the authorities to designate Butwal as the permanent capital of Province 5. The rally moved around the town and converged into a mass meeting. Addressing the demonstrators, NC leaders demanded that authorities make Butwal the permanent provincial capital.
