Jan 22, 2019-
Himalayan Sherpa Club struck late on to beat Nepal Police Club (NPC) 2-0 to advance into the semi-finals of the 10th Simara Gold Cup football tournament on Monday.
As the match was seemingly heading towards goalless draw, Sherpa broke the deadlock in the 86th minute through Tridev Gurung from the close range.
Forward Bishwas Shrestha ensured the victory for Sherpa in the stoppage time and send NPC, the champions of the Khaptad Gold Cup in Dhangadhi on Saturday, crashing out of the tournament.
NPC coach Ananta Raj Thapa said his side was exhausted after long travel from Dhangadhi. “We did not get the rest after long travel as we came straight from Dhangadhi on bus. But the players still gave their best,” said Tamang. “We had made the strategy to study opponents’ game plan and play accordingly. The boys also failed to utilise on scoring chances,” he added.
Sherpa coach Subash Limbu expressed satisfaction over his team’s show despite playing without some influential players.
“Many players have caught cough and cold. We also missed the service of Bhison Gurung in midfield. Despite all the trouble we played better and got the deserving result,” said Limbu.
