Second division outfits Boys Union Club inked the annual title sponsorship deal with Divine Wines, a product of Shree Mahakali Wines Pvt Ltd, in Kathmandu on Monday.
Divine handed over a cheque of Rs 1 million to the Boys Union Club who are set to compete in the Martyrs Memorial ‘B’ Division League football tournament starting from February 8 at the ANFA Complex, Satdobato. The club will be named as Divine Boys Union Club for one-year period. The club will wear sports kits with the logo of Divine Wine in all tournaments they participate. Club President Niraj Bahadur Raut and Divine’s Managing Director Santosh Khadka signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU).
Sanju Shakya, a brand manager of the Divine Wine, said that the company was proud to be associated with Boys Union and wished the team’s success. The Tripureshwor-based club was established in 1952 and were relegated to second division after finishing bottom of the ‘A’ Division League table in 2013-14. The club as a rich history clinching the top-tier league 1976. They have also won about half a dozen knockout football tournament titles in the 1970s.
All Nepal Football Association President Karma Tsering Sherpa wished for success of the team in the league. “I believe that the club will be able to repeat success of its glorious past,” said Sherpa who also wished for club’s elevation to ‘A’ division though ANFA has scrapped the provision of relegation and promotion in the season.
Boys Union became the second ‘B’ Division teams after Bansbari Club, who signed title sponsorship worth Rs 800,000 with Spark Hospital on January 29, to lure sponsors. Boys Union will take on Jhamshikhel Youth Club in the tournament curtain raiser on Friday. The ‘B’ Division League features 12 teams divided into two pools. Top two teams from each pool will make into the Super League where they will play a round robin league. Top four teams will be based on points obtained in the Super League.
