Feb 18, 2019-
The 15th edition of International Industrial Trade Fair will kick off on March 7 at Bhrikutimandap Exhibition Hall in Kathmandu with an objective to promote homemade products.
The five-day fair is being organised by the Federation of Nepal Cottage and Small Industries.
Umesh Prasad Singh, acting president of the federation said the small cottage industries have the potential to play a key role in the economic development of Nepal as it could generate employment opportunities to a large number of people.
However, these industries are not being able to make progress due to a lack of technology and capacity development, he said. “As a result, youths are not attracted towards the industry,” he added.
“We have been organising the fairs regularly at the central, provincial and local levels to promote homemade goods,” he said. “Such fairs will help to share knowledge and skill and promote commercialisation.”
The fair is being organised with the slogan “Let’s use Nepali products, let’s be proud of being Nepali”.
According to him, the fair will bring around 400,000 micro, cottage and small industries to a single platform to showcase their products. He said that along with the fair, the 3rd edition of Organic Agriculture Fair will also be held.
There will be 200 stalls for entrepreneurs from all seven provinces and districts. The organiser said that the fair will also bring participants from the SAARC countries and China. The organisers expect transaction of more than Rs70 million, with 200,000 footfalls in the fair.
With the increasing attraction in organic farming, the trade fair is organising the organic agriculture fair in the same venue. Some major attractions of the fair include a cultural programme and food fair.
