All Nepal Free Student Union and All Nepal Free Student Union (Revolutionary), student wings of the ruling Nepal Communist Party, padlocked the offices of Vice Chancellor of Tribhuvan University and Dean Office of the Institute of Medicine today.
The two student unions alleged that the TU office bearers, including IoM Dean Office, have not taken any initiative to address the problems faced by MBBS students at Gandaki Medical College and Kist Medical College.
“We will be forced to launch stern protests against the concerned officials at TU if the students’ problems are not addressed immediately,” said RC Lamichhane, secretary of the All Nepal Free Student Union.
The college administration at Gandaki Medical College has not accepted examination forms from students even though the students only have three days left to submit the forms.
Students had earlier filed cases with the police against college operators for charging additional money under different headings and pretexts. Lamichhane said that the IoM Dean Office should look into the matter of Gandaki Medical College not accepting exam forms from students following the protests, as this will lead to students missing their second year exam.
A probe panel formed earlier by the TU also submitted a report stating that college operators of Gandaki Medical College pressurised students and their parents into paying additional money. Students at the college complained that the college administration put pressure on their parents to convince their wards to withdraw their complaints or face consequences.
