The construction of a motorable bridge over the Sadhi stream in Barhabise Municipality, Sindhupalchok, is in the final stage of completion.
The bridge along the Araniko Highway was swept away during last year’s monsoon, disrupting vehicular movement and cutting off the northern part of Sindhupalchok district, including Tatopani.
According to the Division Road Office (DRO), the construction of the Bailey bridge will be completed within a week. Dharmendra Jha, chief at the DRO in Charikot, said that the construction work of the bridge has gained momentum considering the approaching monsoon season. “Barhabise Municipality is also helping with the bridge’s construction that is estimated to cost Rs 40 million,” Jha said.
Nimfunjo Sherpa, mayor of the municipality, said that they are bearing all the expenses of the bridge’s construction. The DRO officials said they are also repairing damaged road sections at Mahabhir, Jure and Kothe, among other areas of the highway. Pradip Niraula, engineer at the DRO, said that around 170 million has been spent for the road upgradation.
