IOM Resident doctors to protest fee increase
Apr 29, 2014-
Resident doctors at the TU Institute of Medicine (IoM) have threatened to opt out of academic activities and stage a protest at the dean’s office against a “hefty” increase in fees effective from Wednesday.
Dr Pradeep Subedi, a resident doctor at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, said the IoM has been arbitrarily increasing fees for M/MCH, a PhD-level course for doctors, from Rs 640,000 in 2009 to Rs 2,400,000 in 2012.
Dr Rakesh Shreewastav, the IoM dean, however, said that their financial situation is poor so they were obliged to increase the fees.
“Either the government or the TU itself has to inject money. There is no way of sustaining the institute without increasing fees,” said Dr Shreewastav.
