Rain to continue until Sunday: MFD
May 2, 2014-
Pre-monsoon rains accompanied by hail and lightening lashed many places across the country, particularly the districts along the Eastern and Central regions since Thursday night and will continue until Sunday, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division.
The moisture supplied all the way from the Bay of Bengal in India with the formation of the low pressure system (rainfall favouring activity) along the Eastern region brought thundershowers throughout the country on Thursday night, MFD said. Usually, the months between March to May is considered pre-monsoon phase. The monsoon, the wettest season that supplies more than 80 percent of the annual rainfall, starts in the first week of June.
A majority of the meteorological stations in the Eastern region on Friday received rains on Friday.
“The westerlies are slowly retreating, and the easterlies responsible for rains during the pre-monsoon and monsoon are getting active in the Eastern and some parts of the Central regions, while the West is still dominated by westerly winds,” said Shiva Nepal, senior meteorologist at the MFD. He said the West is likely to witness fair weather on Saturday and Sunday.
