My plan is to reform party: BRB
May 13, 2014-
UCPN (Maoist) leader Baburam Bhattarai has said that his plan is not to form a new political force but to transform the existing one. Talking to reporters on Tuesday after returning from a private visit to China, the former prime minister said the old ideology and organisational set-up cannot enable the party to lead the country. Bhattarai’s statement comes at a time when some leaders close to him are saying that they would form a new party if Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal fails to address their demands.
On his dispute with party chairman, he said problems arose after Dahal tried to strengthen his hold in party organisaitons. “I am protesting the authoritative tendency inside the party,” he said, adding that he would not split the party but transform it. During the party’s recent national convention, Bhattarai and his loyalists refused to join the Central Committee (CC) in a move that worsened internal feud.
“The war-era centralised structures cannot lead the party in the changed context,” he said. He also underlined the need of unification with the CPN-Maoist on the basis of ideology. “I am close to party chairman on the issue of political ideology but I am close to Mohan Baidya regarding organisaitonal issue,” he said, adding that leaders close to him would not join the CC unless their demands are addressed.
