NERF padlocks district education offices

- POST REPORT, Kathmandu

Jul 17, 2014-

Administrative works at a majority of the district education offices across the country have been obstructed after the teachers affiliated to the Nepal Educational Republic Forum (NERF) padlocked the offices on Wednesday.

NERF is on a protest to press the government to fulfill its demands for  permanent status of temporary teachers through internal competition, allocatation of post to teachers recruited under the relief quota, and payment of teachers allowances and other perks on a par with government schools, among others. NERF representatives have said they were forced to padlock the district education offices because the education minister paid no attention to their concerns. They have threatened to shut down the schools across the country, if their demands are not addressed by Saturday.  NERF has also asked the government not to replace temporary teachers with permanent ones who were selected through open competition conducted by the Teachers Service Commission.
