153 die in disasters in 3 months: NEOC

Natural disasters have claimed 153 lives and left eight missing across the country in the past three months. Of the 12 different types of disasters recorded during the three-month period that affected around 208 families, thunderbolt topped the list followed by fire with total number of deaths at 64 and 11 respectively, according to data by the National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) under the Ministry of Home Affairs. The total financial loss incurred by the disasters totaled around Rs 990 million.

Floods and landslides, the most common monsoon-induced disasters, claimed 40 lives and incurred financial loss of around Rs 29 million in the past three months. According to NEOC chief Jhanka Nath Dhakal, the government has directed concerned authorities including security personnel to remain on high alert towards water-induced disasters during monsoon.
