Green Circle Project was introduced on Tuesday with a view to encourage paper waste reduction in corporate organisations by promoting its reuse and recycle.

The project initiated by Women Environment Preservation Committee, an organisation working for cleaning and conserving urban environment in Kathmandu, and supported by Hotel Yak and Yeti aims at promoting environment friendly office practices by promoting eco-friendly measures within various organisations like Financial Institutions and Hotels.

The WEPCO looks forward to requesting interested corporates to be a member of the project, charging them according to the number of employees as membership fees. Organisations with 50 employees should pay a fee of Rs 5,000 while the companies with more than 300 employees should pay Rs 20,000.

The companies who join the initiative would then allow WEPCO to collect their paper waste and recycle or reuse them as customised printed paper pads and souvenirs. The Green Circle Project has been promoted by Science, Technology and Environment Ministry.

Addressing the launch of the programme on Tuesday, President of WEPCO Bishnu Thakali said the project would also contribute in generating revenue and also provide employment opportunities. “We aim to encourage business houses in the country to use the best environmental practices, benefiting both the organisation and the environment.” The project will also train member organisations on environment friendly practices, she added.
