Section of Siddhartha highway in dismal state
Aug 4, 2014-
Vehicular movement along the Jhumsa-Chidiyakhola section of the Siddhartha Highway has been badly affected as the blacktop has come off to reveal massive potholes within a month after the road was repaired.
The road remains in such a pathetic condition that even motorcycles and light vehicles cannot ply on it. Apparently, the road was blacktopped only a year ago after the completion of the work on water supply lines to Butwal.
“The road which remains damaged for months was blacktopped only a year ago, but even after month of repairs, the condition of the road remains pathetic,” said local Ramesh Khadka, blaming the construction companies for their poor quality work during the construction and blacktopping of the road.
While bus driver Shiva Thapa said that they have a hard time operating public buses on the route as the potholes are so large that they have almost reduced the highway into a one-lane road.
The Bajraguru-Rayamajhi-Daya JV Construction Company, which is currently doing repair works on the road, has only finished a fraction of the repair works, but even that has been undone within a month. The construction company had won the contract worth Rs 30 million to carry out repair works on the Jhumsa-Chidiyakhola road section that had been damaged while installing water supply lines to Butwal.
According to engineer Keshab Ojha of the Division Road Office (DRO), the construction company was supposed to complete the repair works by the end of last fiscal year, but only five percent of the repairs have been fin ence on the part of the construction company as well as the technicians involved in the repair works were to blame for the pathetic condition of the road.
It has been learnt that two companies excavating limestones from Marekdanda have been operating tippers on the road since the past three years.
