Lalitpur sub-metropolis to end child labour
Aug 13, 2014-
Lalitpur sub-metropolis is set to declare its two wards child labour-free by freeing child workers from their employers in the next two weeks. Under the Green Flag movement initiated about two months ago, the Social Welfare Department of the metropolis has already rescued 42 child workers under the age of 14. The rescued children have been sent to Bal Help Line, a non-government organisation. According to Ashok Shrestha, chief at the Social Welfare Department, some children have been sent to their homes. “In case the family members rely on the earnings of the children, they would be provided with skill development trainings to help them earn a living,” he said.
The sub-metropolis is also distributing green flags to houses that do not have child workers. “Children should not be enslaved,” said a man from Ward Number 14, who had employed a boy as omestic help in his house in the past.
