Issuing a press statement on Thursday, Fecofun said that the government’s attempt to declare Chure as conservation area and the formation of committee led by Rameshwor Khanal, former finance secretary, is against the spirit of local communities and termed the decision ‘anti-participatory’. The government has denied the allegations made by Fecofun It has said the committee has priortised the community involvement in its programme that will work towards improving the livelihood of the people living along the Chure region.
The Joint Struggle Committee is preparing to form district and local level movement committee in all 36 districts along the Chure region and launch their protest starting Saturday. It has plans of organising plantation event on public place, people mobilisation campaign and signature campaign as part of its protest which will last until October.
“If the demands are not addressed until mid-September, the joint struggle committee will announce our movement by boycotting the programme attended by Minister of Forest and Soil Conservation Mahesh Acharya and padlock the programme office,” the statement read.
