Efforts on to open Arniko Highway section

Sep 3, 2014-

The Road Department Office and various entrepreneur associations in the district have intensified the track construction in order to resume traffic at the earliest on the Araniko Highway. Around 3-km stretch was swept away by the August 2 landslide at Jure in the district. Dozers and excavators have been used on a 24-hour basis by around 100 workers to speed up the construction.

While the entrepreneur associations have been working on the eastern side of the track, the Road Department is said to be occupied on the western end. The Road Department has completed work on around half-kilometres of the track, and the entrepreneur associations on around 2 kilometres road.

“We have not been able to complete the works on time for various reasons. We are working day and night in hopes that the vehicles will ply the road within the next six days,” said Bishnu Bahadur Khatri, coordinator of the Road Construction Committee.

Dasharath Yadav, engineer at the Road Division Office, said that all possible mechanisms have been deployed to construct the road. The Highway has remained obstructed for the past 33 days due to the landslide.
