Ganga Maya starts taking fluids: Docs
Oct 19, 2014-
Ganga Maya Adhikari, who ended her year-long fast on Saturday night, has started taking some fluids from Sunday. Doctors attending her say some amount of oral rehydration salts and glucose is being fed to her. “She will be administered intravenous nutrition supplement unless her health recovers completely,” said Dr AE Ansari, who is looking after Ganga Maya at Bir Hospital. “We cannot feed her in large amount as doing so might have adverse effect to her health.”
He said since her body has not taken any food for a year, they will closely monitor her health and if she needs additional care, she will be transferred to intensive care unit. He said Ganga Maya will be kept at the room adjacent to Intensive Care Unit of the hospital until her health stabilises.
The government on Saturday committed to bear all her medical expenses. She was given a drink by Peace and Reconstruction Minister Narahari Acharya after the government promised to book the murderers of her son. Eighteen-year-old Krishna Prasad was allegedly murdered after abduction by rebel Maoists from his home at Fujel, Gorkha, in 2004. She, however, will not be taking solid food until her demand for justice is met.
The government has assured Ganga Maya that the guilty will be brought to justice and that she would be compensated for the loss of property the family has incurred since the Maoist insurgency. The government has announced a special relief package that includes security for family members and free accommodation and health care for Ganga Maya throughout her life.
