Chand faction meets in Kapilvastu
Nov 12, 2014-
Disregarding the warning of the party leadership, a faction of CPN-Maoist led by party Secretary Netra Bikram Chand arrived to Kapilvastu on Wednesday for a “crucial gathering” to discuss the prospect of forming a new party.
The conclave which was due to take place in a forest in Shivagadhi village on Wednesday, however, could not convene because of the dealy in the arrival of the leaders from some of the districts. Around 60 leaders from the Chand faction had reached Shivagadhi as of the evening.
A source said that during the two-day meeting Chand will brief the participants about the “failure of the party leadership” to justify the split from the mother party, UCPN (Maoist), and the “conspiracy that is afoot for reunion with the old party”.
Besides that, the source said, Chand will also explain why they should take a separate path, even if that meant splitting the party, to take the “unfinished rebellion” to its logical conclusion.
One leader said that they would remain in the party if the leadership is willing to lead the rebellion.
On Tuesday, CPN-Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidya had warned Chand and his supporters from going against the party’s interest.
The two sides have been deeply polarised after Chand challenged Baidya by presenting a separate political document proposing unified people’s rebellion as a continuity of the people’s war, hinting towards another insurgency.
Baidya’s document spoke of launching people’s revolution on the foundation of the people’s war.
CPN-Maoist politburo meeting on Tuesday had passed the political document presented by Baidya and decided to hold a central committee meeting on November 15 and an extended central committee meeting thereafter.
