Nov 19, 2014-
A former Maoist People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is among those arrested behind Tuesday’s robbery outside the gate of SBI Bank in Chandrapur Municipality-1 of Rautahat district, police said on Wednesday.
Police have arrested one Narayan Rai, a former Maoist combatant, and Shambhu Thapa, an employee at Infrastructure Bank (IB), in connection to the robbery.
Police said the robbery was planned at Romeo and Juliet Hotel. Aashish Dahal, the hotel owner, told police that Sushil Dulal, the suspected mastermind behind the robbery, had brought three people, including Rai to the hotel on October 19.
Aashish said that the gang used to wear masks whenever they went out. Superintendent of Police Sanubabu Thapaliya said they investigated
the incident based on statements of Rai, adding that they also obtained some documents related to the robbery from Rai.
He said that Thapa was arrested in suspicion of giving bank information to the looters.
A police source said that Thapa was recently spotted having a meal with Sushil. Thapa has, however, denied any wrongdoing, and said that he and Sushil were friends.
On Tuesday, an armed gang of four shot at Tejak Bahadur Karki, security guard of IB, Chandrapur, and assaulted Ujjwal Rijal, the senior assistant of IB, outside the gate of SBI Bank, before making off with Rs 2 million on two motorcycles. The money belonged to the IB.
