Jan 16, 2015-

Deepak Obhrai, Canada’s Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and for International Human Rights called on President Ram Baran Yadav on Friday.

On behalf of the Government of Canada,  Obhrai announced Canadian support to a project in Nepal run by the Forum of Federations titled, “Consolidating Democratic Transition in Nepal”. The project is expected to build on the Forum’s experience with federalism and decentralisation to provide technical support to elected representatives of the second Constituent Assembly and an outreach program for local civil society, community leaders and interested citizens.

The primary purpose of Parliamentary Secretary Obhrai’s visit to Nepal is to mark the 50th anniversary of Canada-Nepal diplomatic relations, said a statement issued by the Canadian mission in New Delhi concurrently accredited to Nepal.

The visit is also an opportunity to focus on expanding bilateral commercial relations, encourage democratic developments, and discuss issues of mutual interest with Nepali interlocutors, said the statement.
