Bharatpur Hospital to run MD, MS courses
Jan 23, 2015-
The state-run Bharatpur Hospital has geared up for conducting MS and MD classes, the first of its kind to be introduced in government hospitals outside the Valley. Hospital authorities said the Doctor of Medicine (MD) and Master of Science (MS), a dual degree graduate programme under the affiliation of National Academy of Medical Sciences, Bir Hospital, in the Capital, will come into operation from July.
According to Medical Superintendent Keshab Bhurtel, they got the permission to run the programme after they managed to fulfill all the necessary criteria. Bhurtel said the programme will be beneficial to students and maximise the output of consultant doctors within the country. As students completing MBBS have to either enrol in a handful of private hospitals offering the course or go abroad, the introduction of the programme has come as a respite for students.
With the introduction of the programme at the hospital, students can complete the courses at the cost of around Rs 2.5-3 million, half of what the private hospitals charge. According to the hospital, priority will be given to students working at government hospitals. As the students will be working at the hospital, they will also be entitled to a certain amount of salary, helping them earn while they learn. The hospital said patients will get good care as doctors will be living at the hospital during the course.
