655 solar lamps light up Capital

- POST REPORT, Kathmandu

Mar 3, 2015-

As part of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA)’s campaign to illuminate various areas in the Capital with solar-powered street lamps this year, installation of solar lamps in airport area, including Baluwatar, Naxal, Gaurighat and Handigaun has concluded.

Altogether 655 solar lamps  have been illuminating the aforementioned areas from last week, NEA said.

However, with the installation of solar-powered lights in the aforementioned areas, NEA said it has completed its campaign of installing solar lights in the Capital.

NEA had installed 200 such street lamps in the Pashupati area in the run up to the Mahashivaratri festival last month.

“We could not install solar lamps in other areas as we had planned as we have run out of solar batteries. So with the installation of solar lamps in airport, Pashupati including few other areas, our campaign to install solar power street lamps in the Capital has been completed,” said Nutan Dev Bhattarai, the NEA project manager.

Locals in the areas where solar lamps have been installed said they have

greatly benefited from the campaign to install solar powered lights after its initial

success during the Saarc Summit.
