Various stakeholders, including government bodies, will organise week-long programmes to mark World Water Day-2015, which is celebrated annually on March 22 since 1993.

World Water Day is marked as a means of focussing  attention on the importance of freshwater and proper management of freshwater resources to contribute towards sustainable development.

A press meet was organised by the Water and Energy Secretariat (WECS), the main organising body responsible for making necessary preparation to celebrate the water week on annual basis, on Friday to highlight the issues related to freshwater and sustainable management of freshwater resources.

Various organisations as well as government agencies have been organising week-long programmes under an umbrella network of Nepal National Water Week with the coordination WECS since 2008.

The Nepal National Water Week 2015 will in coordination with other non-government organisations focus on raising awareness on the challenges faced in water management in light of the increase in demand for water, including its access and allocation. Similarly, the week-long national event will work towards making a call on focusing on water and sustainable management of water resources in Nepal.

It will also create a forum for government and non-government organisations along with research institute to come together and work on sustainable development

with focus on water management, along with creating awareness on the importance of sustainable management of water, according to the organisers.
