Morang FC hold MMC
- red bull national league
Apr 16, 2015-
Leaders Manang Marshyangdi Club (MMC) were surprisingly held to a goalless draw by bottom-placed Morang Football Club in the Red Bull National League here at the Shahid Rangasala in Biratnagar on Thursday.
The stalemate meant MMC could only open up a one-point lead over Jhapa XI. In other matches of the day, Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) drubbed hosts Lumbini FC 5-0 in Butwal to climb to third in the standings with nine points from five games, while Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club were held to 0-0 draw by Far-western Football Club in Dhangadi. APF hold fifth position with seven points while Far-western remain seventh on five points.
In Biratnagar, Morang goalkeeper Kishor Giri was the star performer who ensured Morang share the spoils. Giri made more than 18 brilliant saves to deny MMC the victory. The Morang custodian was rewarded with man-of-the-match award. MMC were unlucky when Sulabh Maskey’s shot rebounded off the woodwork in the 66th minute. Luck was against the Kathmandu-based top-tier team as they found back of the net twice in the 83rd and 87th minute but on both occasions ruled out to be offside.
“We played with overconfidence in the first half and failed to score in the later half despite coming up with the better show,” said MMC coach Raju Kaji Shakya. Shakya blamed poor finishing up front for failure to convert goals.
Despite being busy to fend off the MMC threat throughout the second half, Morang nearly scored the winner nine minutes from time. Sunil Khadka was unable to direct the ball from close range following a short pass from Bishal Limbu. Morang coach Paras Chaudhary termed the draw as victory. “Being able to steal a point from the likes of MMC is victory in itself,” said the Morang coach.
In Butwal, Navayug Shrestha and Amrit Basnet scored braces as TAC made light work of home team Lumbini. Tek Bahadur Budathoki also joined in the goal scoring spree for the Army club. Shrestha opened the scoring in the 40th minute and Budathoki doubled their lead in the 64th minute. Shrestha made it 3-0 in the 69th before Basnet completed the rout adding his double in the 82nd and deep into the injury time.
