Govt prefers grants, cash, says FinMin
May 26, 2015-
The government wishes donors to support it with grants instead of loans and in cash instead of in-kind as much as possible, Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat said.
During his meeting with Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) President Dr Akihiko Tanaka on Tuesday, Mahat said that Nepal required generous support from donors to reconstruct the infrastructure destroyed by the recent earthquakes.
“The earthquake damaged people’s homes, properties, government offices, hospitals, schools and heritage sites which need to be reconstructed,” he added.
The Finance Ministry said in a press release that the government expected the participation of a high-level delegation from Japan to participate in the international donors’ conference planned for June 25. On the occasion, Tanaka praised the government’s plan to hold an international meeting of donors to generate resources and pledged to help Nepal as per its needs. “We are ready to help Nepal in the areas of education, health and infrastructure,” he said.
