Trekking company helps Rasuwa

Doklan, Thangdar, Singbeni, Dongmar, Larchang and Yubra villages of the mountainous VDC had been deprived of shelter after the Great Quake destroyed their houses. Owing to difficult topographical conditions, the villages had been cut off from the rest of the parts of the district. The villages are 25 km from Kalikasthan, the main road leading to Dhunche to Langmu village, and from there it’s a four-hour walk to reach the VDC. Almost all the houses of the VDC are uninhabitable.
“We came to know about the situation through our porters who used to work with us,” said Ngima Lama Sherpa, field manager of the company.
The company has already sent to the VDC a team with 100 tarpaulins, 11 tents, eight dining tents, 160 mattresses, 150 blankets, 1,000 kg beaten rice, 56 cartons of biscuits and some noodles. The material was estimated to be enough for 185 households.
“As the team reached the field, we found out that many other villages in the neighbourhood were facing similar problems, which basically was the need of shelters,” said Sherpa. His team assessed the need of the villagers and then readied relief material for more villages on the next trip. The company supplied tarpaulins and food stuff—worth Rs 2.5 million—to 637 households of the villages.
