- POST REPORT, Nuwakot

Jun 10, 2015-

With the aim to complete the reconstruction of Shri Krishna Higher Secondary School and Taruka Campus of Taruka VDC in the district within a month, locals, teachers and the School Management Committee have started the rebuilding project after dividing work among themselves.

Locals have pledged to provide all the construction materials required while the School Operators Committee has taken the responsibility of gathering the funds. Local political leaders and teachers will work as monitors to ensure a transparent management of resources.

The Great Earthquake has completely destroyed 18 out of the 24 classrooms of the two educational institutes. Currently, the school is operating its classes in tree-shades within the school premises. A total of 610 students are enrolled in the two institutions.

Chairman of the School Operators Committee Krishna Man Pradhan, who is also a former student of the school, has already provided 24 bundles of zinc sheets to the school from the Rs 190,000 he had collected.

Pradhan has also distributed zinc sheets to 40 households from the underprivileged communities in wards 6 to 9 of the village through the local Gramin Bikas Pratisthan.

A further distribution for 40 households is in the offing. So far, Pradhan, who once served as managing director of Nepal Law Society, has distributed relief worth Rs 1 million in Taruka VDC.

A total of 1,400 houses have been completely destroyed by the Great Earthquake in the VDC, which is some 11 miles from the district headquarters, Bidur.
