Two more bodies retrieved from Taplejung landslide

Search team on Thursday retrieved two more bodies from landslides in Taplejung district. Thirty-nine people have been confirmed dead in the landslides that occurred in six VDCs in the western part of the district on the night of June 10. At least 20 people are still missing.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police  (DSP) Shantiraj Koirala, the search team recovered bodies of Bhim Bahadur Nalbo of Lingtep and Chandra Kala BK of Khokling. DSP Koirala also informed that 416 households from 11 VDCs have been displaced following the landslides.

Seven days after the incident, a Nepal Army helicopter dropped relief materials at Thinglabu. Rice, pulses, cooking oil, salt and clothes were provided to the victims.

The landslide-displaced people have been taking shelter at local school buildings and health posts. Chief District Officer Damaru Prasad Niraula said that health teams have been dispatched to treat the victims.
