Speaking at an interaction at the Reporters Club in the Capital on Thursday, Prof Bishwamber Pyakurel said that Nepal should prepare a dossier regarding the impact of the blockade and hold an urgent meeting with the international community to explain the sufferings.
“The people are largely suffering from the April earthquake, and now we have the Indian blockade to deal with,” he further added.
Former Ambassador to China Rajeshwor Acharya believed that the country will have to declare a state of emergency if present crisis continues.
Nepal should send a special team to the Saarc nations and China to inform the impact of the blockade, he suggested. “The government should however be careful while dealing with foreign countries.”
He also slammed the government for not being able to resolve the Tarai-Madhes
crisis internally.
Former Nepali Ambassador to India Bhekh Bhadur Thapa urged the government to internationalise the situation created by the blockade as soon as possible. “We have also not spoken to India at various levels, which highlights our failure of politics and diplomacy,” said Thapa.
