Top political leaders and government officials are said to be discussing along this line if essential supplies fail to enter Nepal from India soon. The government is also planning to inform the international community that the country is facing serious humanitarian crisis, with essential supplies, including life-saving drugs, running out of stock.
Government officials said that there has been a huge impact on earthquake-affected people, who are living in makeshift tents, as they are bearing the brunt of the shortage of daily essentials and that Nepal needs to highlight the issue of impending humanitarian crisis.
The government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has instructed its all diplomatic missions abroad to make the host countries aware about the situation in Nepal through official and unofficial channels, the media and diplomatic community as well as Nepali community.
Several countries through Nepali diplomatic missions there have started expressing concern over situation in Nepal and are seeking the latest update in the wake of the blockade, said a senior government official.
In addition, Nepali missions are also planning to seek help from the Nepali diaspora to disseminate information about the situation in Nepal.
“If the situation continues to remain like this, the Nepali side will definitely seek help from the international community. Similarly, the government will also look for alternative measures, including importing fuel from China and other countries, to ease the crisis,” said the officials.
“This, however, does not mean we are not engaged with India,” said another official. “We are constantly in touch with the Indian government.”
