The Cabinet meeting on Thursday decided to assign the National Planning Commission to oversee reconstruction related works until the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) Bill is approved by the Parliament.

The bill on reconstruction of earthquake damaged structures presented by the earlier government has not yet been endorsed by Parliament.

The outgoing Sushil Koirala-led government had registered a bill in Parliament to form the National Reconstruction Authority and appointed Govind Raj Pokhrel as its CEO. The bill, however, could not move ahead due to the opposition from CPN-UML and UCPN(Maoist).

The meeting also decided to continue diplomatic efforts with India to lift the obstruction in the border and continue the dialogue with the agitating Madhes based parties. The government also said it will explore all possibilities to cope with the fuel crisis.
