UCPN (Maoist) in nationwide drive to rebuild party

- Post Report, Kathmandu

Dec 21, 2015-

The UCPN (Maoist) has decided to launch a six-month nationwide campaign to build the party’s organisational base and to orient cadres on the new constitution.

A meeting of the party’s Central Committee will on Monday take a decision on the matter. According to party spokesman Dina Nath Sharma, central leaders will be deployed at the grassroots for revitalising the party organisation.

Due to factionalism and internal disputes, the party has not paid adequate attention to its organisation. Maoist leaders argue that the departure of senior leader Baburam Bhattarai has made it easier for them to rebuild the party.

“The six-month campaign will be unveiled on completion of the Central Committee meeting on Monday,” said Sharma.

Stating that there was a lot of confusion about the new constitution, he said the “training” would make cadres clear on why the party stood in favour of adopting the new constitution.

The party has not revamped its insurgency-era structure even after joining peaceful politics nine years ago.

In the CC meeting, Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal said the party should show its united face to regain its lost glory.

The third largest party in Parliament is preparing to hold its general convention by the end of next year to elect a new leadership.

The party has decided to expedite preparations for holding conventions from the district level. Leaders attending the meeting advised Chairman Dahal to check corrupt-ion and take immediate measures for reviving the party.
