There was a noticeable increase in public activities in Gaur on Wednesday after the local administration lifted the curfew clamped on Tuesday. Shops and market places were open after days of closure.
“The agitating Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha did not take out protest rally on Wednesday. We decided to lift the curfew as there were no security threat,” said Chief District Officer Narahari Baral.
Meanwhile, the activists of the agitating Sanghiya Samabesi Madhes Alliance took out a baton rally in Janakpur on Wednesday. The cadres of Rastriya Madhes Samajbadi Party, Sadbhawana Party Nepal, Forum Gantantrik and Tarai Madhes Rastriya Abhian, among other parties, of the alliance took part in the rally.
Rastriya Madhes Samajbadi Party lawmaker Dinesh Sah said that the agitation would continue until the demands of Madhes are addressed.
Organising a press meet at Rajbiraj in Saptari district, the alliance demanded changes in the Constitution Amendment Bill tabled in Parliament. “The bill prepared during the Nepali Congress government does not address the problem of Madhes. It is meaningless to table the same bill,” said Rastriya Madhes Samajbadi Party Chairman Sarat Singh Bhandari.
Six injured in Malangawa clash
SARLAHI: At least six protesters were injured during a clash in Malangawa, the district headquarters of Sarlahi, on Wednesday evening. The security personnel fired 36 rounds of rubber bullets and lobbed six teargas canisters as the enraged protesters resorted to vandalism. The Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha said Ram Bhajan and Abhas Mansur sustained injuries as police fired rubber bullets indiscriminately. Deputy Superintendent of Police Ramesh Khaka said
the security personnel were compelled to take action after the protesters hurled Molotov cocktails. “Nearly 100 petrol bombs were hurled at the security personnel,” he said.
