A taskforce headed by Narahari Acharya submitted its report to party President Sushil Koirala. The Central Working Committee (CWC) had entrusted panel to finalize the list as per the suggestions of party members.
According to panelist Ram Krishna Yadav, Koirala will take final decisions regarding some minor disputes over Solukhumbu, Dolpa and Kapilvastu districts. “Despite some dissatisfaction and objections, we have submitted a report to the party which will expedite preparations for the convention,” Yadav said. The list of active members will be handed over to the party’s election committee to conduct the polls in villages and districts.
Leaders close to party President Koirala have been complaining about an unfair distribution of membership. Central Working Committee member Bala Bahadur KC, along with his colleagues from Solukhumbu, has launched a sit-in at the party’s central office in protest of alleged irregularities during the membership distribution. Chairman of NC Dolpa Tanka Prasad Upadhyay has also expressed dissatisfaction over the way the membership had been distributed in the district. The party had 316,000 active members in 2010. The committee has, however, proposed to increase the number to 470,655 for the upcoming convention. The membership disputes have been reported from more than 24 districts. The delay in settling the row is likely to affect the party’s village, regional and district conventions.
Rival camps are competing to distribute membership to cadres loyal to them. Only active members are entitled to vote during the convention that elects the party’s central leadership, including its president.
