SLMM leaders said they would withdraw their protest once their concerns over the newly adopted constitution are addressed.
“We have been seeking point-wise discussion on our demand to settle the differences. But the major parties are yet to come up with a concrete position on issues including the Amendment Bill and state boundary revision,” said Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party Chairman Mahantha Thakur. In a meeting with the leaders of the Nepali Congress and the UCPN (Maoist) last week, the SLMM leadership had asked the major parties to make population the sole basis for electoral constituency delimitation and provincial representation in the national assembly.
The Morcha leadership had also told the largest and third largest parties that they would agree to a federal revision in three months if the major parties agreed to their other demands.
In a programme organised to mark the eighth establishment day of the party in Kathmandu on Monday, TMLP Vice-chairman Hridayesh Tripathi said the protests would continue until their demands are met.
