Four hurt as traders clash with Birgunj protesters

Police said four persons including three protesters were injured in the clash. Brij Kishor Patel of Bara, Amar Yadav of Parsa, Shiva Pujan Tatwa of Vediyahi and local porter Mahendra Ram sustained injuries in the incident. They are undergoing treatment at Narayani Sub-regional Hospital.
After the Indian police and Raxaul customs office allowed goods to enter Nepal via the border obstructed for the past four months, traders have started chasing away protesters who have been sitting-in on the no-man’s-land. Around 50 people brought in cartloads of goods across the border on Tuesday night.
Smugglers shut Nepalgunj-Rupaidiha border
BANKE: The Nepalgunj-Rupaidiha border point was briefly disrupted after some smugglers obstructed the passage after they were barred from bringing in fuel on Thursday. However, police used excessive force to disperse them from the no-man’s-land. They obstructed the border after the local administration imposed restrictions on fuel smuggled from across the border. Assistant Sub-inspector Hari Bahadur Gurung of the Area Police Post, Jamunaha, said the smugglers who tried to obstruct the border fled to the Indian territory after police action. (PR)
