Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party Chairman Mahantha Thakur has alleged Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s non-cooperation for resolving the Madhes problems though he pretended to be liberal.
Thakur, who has been admitted to Medanta Hospital since Sunday for treatment, was commenting on the failed talks between the leaders of the three major political parties and the Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha on Thursday.
“Non-cooperation and negative approach of Prime Minister Oli spoilt the environment even though the parties were moving closer to an agreement on the key issues,” said the Madhesi leader.
Thakur alleged that Oli’s unnecessarily rigid stands had dealt blows to a potential agreement several times though the joint taskforce and other senior leaders were about to reach an agreement.
“An agreement has been reached to form a high-level political mechanism and to prepare its terms of reference for resolving the row over state borders,” said Thakur. “But, all of a sudden, PM Oli sent a message across to continue with the Madhes protests.”
Stating that he had been briefed on the stalled talks in Kathmandu, Thakur, however, said the door for dialogue had not been shut. Hospital sources said Thakur, who has been admitted to the cardiology department, does not need an operation immediately though his left leg has some problems. He said he had been advised physiotherapy.
Thakur will remain in the Indian capital for a few days after his discharge on Thursday. Nepali Ambassador to India Deep Kumar Upadhyay reached the Gurgaon-based hospital to see the SLMM leader.
