The VDC and district conventions of the party, which will select representatives for the NC’s 13th General Convention, will be held between January 29 and February 8. In a meeting called by Speaker Onsari Gharti, top leaders and chief whips of the major parties had on Monday agreed to postpone the House proceedings while the NC lawmakers are out in the districts. Parliament is expected to endorse its regulations in its next meeting.
Had the parties agreed on the rules, the House meeting on Tuesday would have endorsed them ending the winter session of Parliament. “The winter session is likely to be prorogued after February 11,” said Yogendra Chaudhary, chief chip of the ruling Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Loktantrik.
A dispute between the NC and the ruling CPN-UML over the size of the parliamentary Hearing Committee has delayed the endorsement of the regulations.
The opposition wants continuation of the 73-member committee while the
UML-led ruling alliance is in favour of reducing its
size as provisioned in the new constitution.
