As Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party Chairman Mahantha Thakur held talks with the government and the main opposition Nepali Congress in Kathmandu on Monday, three senior leaders of the Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha were in the Indian state of Bihar to garner support for the Madhes Movement that has slackened after the first amendment to the newly adopted constitution.
Chairman of Sanghiya Samajbadi Forum Nepal Upendra Yadav, Sadbhawana Party Chair Rajendra Mahato and Tarai Madhes Sadbhawana Party chief Mahendra Raya Yadav met Rashtriya Janata Dal President Lalu Prasad Yadav at his residence in Bihar. They are scheduled to meet Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Sushil Kumar Modi on Tuesday.
The SLMM leaders are said to have reached Bihar to seek Indian politicians’ sympathy for the Tarai agitation that has lasted for more than five months. A source claimed that the Morcha leaders are in consultation with the Grand Alliance formed against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s BJP as New Delhi reportedly urged them to revise their protests that have disrupted cross-border trade.
During the half-hour long talks, RJD leader Yadav is said to have pledged help “to maintain mutual relation between Nepal and India”.
