The central election committee of the Nepali Congress has said conventions have been held in 44 districts as part of the preparations for the party’s 13th General Convention.
The election process had been halted for a few days due to the death of sitting party president Sushil Koirala on February 9.
NC’s village conventions, which were not held on schedule in Bara and Parsa districts, are being held, said Pradip Parajuli, secretary at the NC Central Office. The election programme in the two districts started on Tuesday. Parajuli said the election programme was ongoing in other districts of the Tarai while grassroots conventions are over in Dhanusha, Siraha and Saptari.
Gopal Krishna Ghimire, a member of the NC election committee, said circulars were issued to the remaining 31 districts to complete the district conventions by February 22.
So far general convention representatives have been elected from 210 electoral constituencies in 65 districts.
