Judokas feted with cash rewards

The Nepali judo team struck one gold, two silver and six bronze medals in the regional games held February 5-16. Phupu Lhamu Khatri won gold, while Lila Adhikari and Manita Shrestha bagged the silver medals. Among the bronze medals winners were Sarita Chaudhary, Ganga Chaudhary, Punam Shrestha, Indra Bahadur Shrestha, Ramesh Magar and Shiva Bahadur Baram.
Khatri was rewarded with Rs 50,000, while the silver medallists received Rs 30,000 each. The bronze medal winners were presented with Rs 20,000 each. Coaches Dal Bahadur Gurung and Indra Dangol got Rs 20,000 each and managers Debu Thapa and Ganga Bahadur Khadka received Rs 15,000 each. Participating in all 22 disciplines except for men’s hockey, Nepal won three gold, 23 silver and 32 bronze medals. An internal problems in the Basketball Federation of India forced the cancellation of basketball events.
Khatri said she will
always cherish the moment she won the gold at the SA Games. “The success has inspired me to perform even better in the days to come,” added Khatri. The National Sports Council Member Secretary Keshav Bista said that all the medals carry equal significance even if it appe-ared the football triumph gave more joy to the country.
