A school teacher of Nepal Rastriya Secondary School in Bardiya, who was shot by the then Maoist rebels in Dhodhari-1, has been living with a bullet lodged in his head for the past 12 years.
Victim Kiran Yogi’s body has been maimed for life by the projectile. “Though I survived the incident, I have no money for further medical treatment,” said Yogi, adding that a doctor told him that he needs around Rs638,000 for treatment.
Yogi’s wife, Hema, informed that the Maoists rebels shot her husband as he was an active Nepali Congress supporter at the time. “They took him out from the class while he was teaching and shot him,” she said. Yogi’s family has since been living in the in-laws-house at Narayanpur in Dang district.
After the incident, the then Chief District Officer and District Education Officer requested him to quite the job, citing security reasons. “I am helpless now,” said Yogi who has been taking medicines regularly.
Yogi’s family met the then Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and Sushil Koirala for financial help for his treatment, but the top NC leaders neglected them. “There’s no one to understand our pain,” said Yogi with tears welling his eyes. Yogi said he has not demanded compensation from the government. “I need my previous job back,” he said. Yogi’s wife Hema is also on diabetes medication.
