Six years after Janakpur-based media entrepreneur Arun Singhaniya was murdered, police are still clueless about the whereabouts of the two main suspects, Charandeep Yadav and Rambinod Yadav.
Police sources say Charandeep is involved with the criminal outfit responsible behind the shooting of two local Nepali Congress leaders in Dhanusha last month. The whereabouts of Rambinod, however, remain unknown. Two other suspects, Manak Lama and Paswan Lama are also at large. Yogendra Sahani, Anti Rain and Mukesh Chaudhary are the only people arrested so far.
Friends and relatives of Singhaniya say police abandoned the investigation after arresting three people, denying closure to the family members.
“We doubt the investigation is in progress,” said Ishworchandra Jha, vice-chairman of the Federation of Nepali Journalists Dhanusha chapter. “An investigation team formed under Senior Superintendent of Police Bijaya Bhatta has not submitted its report till date.”
The Singhaniya murder investigation was also affected after the then Superintendent of Police Sarbendra Khanal was transferred from Dhanusha, say some people who knew the Singhaniya family. They are of the view that after SP Khanal was transferred, whatever leads his team had concerning the case were not followed and the case lost its priority over time.
“It has been six years and we still don’t know the truth behind the incident. The
main suspects are still at large,” said Singhaniya’s son Rahul.
Singhaniya, who was the chairman of Janakpur Today Communications Group, was shot dead at Shiva Chowk in Janakpur on March 1, 2010.
