Police rounded up 334 people— 213 from Kathmandu, 92 from Lalitpur, and 29 from Bhaktapur—for harassing girls and young women and on the pretext of celebrating Holi.
The government had issued a caveat against smearing colours, throwing water baloons, or harassing strangers in the name of Holi celebration.
Police also arrested 60 people and seized 1,700 vehicles, mostly motorcycles, from Kathmandu for drunk driving and violating traffic regulations. Deputy Inspector General Prakash Aryal at the Kathmandu etropolitan Traffic Division said many people were stopped for riding motorcycles without wearing helmets and for exceeding pillion capacity. Not a single incident of fatal road accident was reported though, Aryal said.
More than 1,200 traffic officers were deployed throughout the Valley to ensure traffic safety.
Superintendent of Police Pradhyumna Karki said special security measures were also made to maiNtain law and order.
Unlike in the past, Karki said, the Holi revellers this year were better behaved.
