The exhibition was inaugurated amid a ceremony by the chairperson of the Film Development Board, Rajkumar Rai, on Monday.
“The artworks that the artists
created after watching Rahdani are really artsy as is the movie itself. The artworks help take a closer peek at the themes the movie pivots around,” said Rai, speaking during the event; “If we hark back to the history, it was first through pictures and sketches that the motion picture came to be… It’s a pleasure that our eminent artists sketched artworks based on a movie—as it does help to strengthen the significance of cinema.”
Meanwhile, art critic Ramesh Khanal asserted that Rahadani has bridged art and movie making. “The paintings on display are realistic,
and vibrantly portray the movie on canvas,” he added.
Similarly, senior artist Radheshyam Mulmi spoke about the issues the movie has unearthed. “Rahdani depicts the current status of Nepali youths…The film shed light on both the pros and cons of foreign employment in clear ways. What’s more, the paintings created based on the film are as informative as is the film.” The exhibition features a total of 35 paintings that include the portraits of the film’s cast including actors Dayahang Rai, Rupa Khanal, Srijana Subba, Asok Rijal, Naveen Lamsal, Monika Dahal and Bikash Joshi, among others.
The exhibition features works by artists such as Radheshyam Mulmi, Ramesh Khanal, Narendra Bahadur Shrestha, Pradeep Adhikari, Bhim Shrestha, Nar Bahadur BK, NB Gurung, Suman Shrestha, Ajit Shah, and Lalkaji Lama, among others.
