Doctors at Bir Hospital admitted him to the intensive care unit. They said there was a sudden rise in Dixit’s blood pressure, which required close monitoring. Dr Manen Prasad Gorkhaly, senior physician at the hospital, said the diastolic pressure of Dixit was as high as 120 on Friday evening. A long-time patient of hypertension, the journalist was under medication.
“We are bringing down the pressure slowly. But he needs an intensive cardiac monitoring,” said Dr Gorkhaly, adding that he has no other complications. Tests of kidney and other organs would be conducted on Sunday, once blood pressure comes under control.
The CIAA on Friday took the Himalmedia co-founder into custody for his alleged involvement in corruption. The anti-corruption body has stated that Dixit was being investigated for complaints of amassing property disproportionate to his known sources of income. Dixit and other journalists and civil society members have deemed the CIAA act as vengeful.
